The Klondike Gold Rush of 1899 is commemorated by the Alaska Mint with this one-troy-ounce fine silver medal of a prospector panning for gold beside a creek with the year 2000 appearing beside him. The figure of the prospector and the rim of the coin are selectively plated with 24-carat gold. The reverse design contains the words "ALASKA GOLD RUSH CENTENNIAL."

The medal is encapsulated in plastic and then mounted in a glossy black cardboard page as part of a well-made 7.875x5.25-inch leatherette-style folio with gold foil embossing on the front. The inside cover describes the medal, and the inside back cover includes a fold out copy of an historic-looking "OFFICIAL MAP OF THE KLONDIKE AND YUKON REGION."
