Backstamped by L. Monaco's Art Gallery, Eureka, Nevada. View shows the Albion Mine at Eureka, Nevada. Albion Mine is in white on the negative. Silver was discovered at Eureka in 1864. The silver-lead mines at Eureka peaked in 1878 with over 50 producing mines and 16 smelters located just outside of town (westernmininghistory.com). The view in the photos is a little light, but views such as this of mines outside of the Comstock in Nevada are rare. Louis Monaco operated on South Main Street in Eureka in the 1870's (Langdon's List of 19th and 20th Century Photographers). The view shows the mill with an ore dump in front.
