Inc. in New York. No. 33, issued for one share to Wm. H. Lee of New York in 1863. Signed by the vice president, Chas. Yeaton, treasurer (illegible) and secretary Henry Alden. Pen cancelled. Ornate design with black border and print, and three vignettes: Benjamin Franklin portrait (upper left), vignette of the device (top center), and unidentified man (possibly Alden?) in the upper right. Printed by R. Thew, New York. 25 cent adhesive revenue stamp attached on the bottom right. Folds, ink stains, and staining on left border. 7.25 x 11.25" Device was patented in 1857 by Timothy Alden. The type was arranged in cells around the circumference of a horizontal wheel. As the wheel moved, receivers started to rotate. The desired type was picked up and dropped in proper order in a line.
