Large group of corporate records for the Alice Gold And Silver Mining Co. of Walkerville, Montana, 1884-1911, incomplete. This collection consists of eighteen (18) ledgers. The Alice was a very important and rich mine at Walkerville. It was the promotional product of John Leahy, whose personal mine promotion records are in another lot in this sale, and include promotional plans and activities of and for the Alice. The Alice was first organized in 1880 in Utah, later reincorporating in Montana. It was in regular production from 1880 through 1893, then sporadically after that through 1906, when control went to the Butte Coalition Mines Co. In 1910 Anaconda bought out the mine and it became part of the Anaconda mega-mine-opolis. By 1920 the main shaft was 1500 feet deep. Dividends were large, over $1.5 million through about 1910.
Many of the records below are during the Leahy period through 1893, when mining stopped briefly. Much of the rest is over the c late 1890's through the Anaconda takeover, reflecting uncertain production.
