When people think of the Alleghany Mining Company, they think of Colorado. However, this certificate was issued in 1847 making it unmistakably Eastern. Number 96 for 20 shares to Joseph H Duckett. Signed by register John S w Cahen and president James N Reading. Eight vignettes, mostly eagles, historical and allegorical. Issued July 7, 1847. Note that the stock was reclaimed on July 7, 1847. This company had incorporated in New Jersey on February 26, 1847 in Warren County. The mine was located on the west side of Kittatinny Mountain presently in Hardwick Township in Warren County. Mining activity quickly dissolved in 1848 due to the lack of copper. This certificate is pre-California Gold Rush. Slight tear on bottom left and top left where the certificate was removed from the book. Very Fine condition.
