In the late 1920s, Monocoupes were famous for introducing relatively inexpensive, compact, affordable, convenient, sporty, speedy and efficient flying to the light plane market. In an era of large, expensive, open-cockpit biplanes, the Monocoupe was the first popular, compact, enclosed-cabin, two-seat, light plane in the United States. When the owner died in 1929, his interest was sold to Allied Aviation, a holding company. The company was passed into receivership in 1931 and re-emerged as two companies in 1932: Lamber Engine and Machine & Monocoupe Corporation. Ken Prag Collection
