#26 for 10 shares to president Hickok. Signed by William B Hickok president and Charles Forman secretary. Signed on reverse by Nevada's third Governor John H. Kinkead. Dateline Gold Hill, September 21, 1863. Incorporated February 21, 1863. 25c Certificate revenue stamp. Nice ore cart outside mine entrance vignette. Gold Hill district. This is a unique vignette of a mine presumably at Gold Hill. Rare printer: Fishbourne's Lithog. Little wear, cancelled in red, small cut cancel and discoloration. Cancelled. The Alpha was listed in local papers for assessments, delinquent certificates and annual meetings, but not for production. All three signatures belong to men who arrived on the Comstock when it was still part of the Utah Territory. Hickok was a mining speculator and part owner of the Pioneer mill. Forman ran the Wells Fargo office when it opened in December of 1858, survivor of the 1860 Pyramid Lake Indian Battle and superintendent of many Comstock mines and mills. Kinkead was the Territorial Treasurer from 1862 to 1864. He was also the first official government employee in Alaska when he was the postmaster at Sitka and the first Alaska Territorial Governor. Fishbourne was in business in 1863 and into 1864 only. RARE printer! Biographies of Hickok, Forman, Kinkead, Fishbourne included.
