Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was a Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist. In Paris during the Art Nouveau period, his stylized art became the best known images of the period. An example of his art is on the reverse of this 5 oz. .999 fine silver round; 62 mm. 6.2 oz. total weight with plastic case. The Mucha coins were released in 2017 by the Anonymous Mint, in one ounce and five ounce coins. Designed by Julie Lindquist, the six coin series featured the artwork of Mucha, Father of the Art Nouveau period. This is the second in the six coin series: Dance. Dance displays a sinuous figure of a female with long auburn hair swaying in the autumn breeze while leaves fall gently around her. Flowers and decorations adorn her hair and her figure is encircled in a beautiful motif. The piece was originally done in pencil and water color, and then later released as a color lithograph.
