This is a story of a bomber pilot and a budding artist whose life ended all too short. On March 17, 1944, Lt. Arthur 'Clem' Sanders took his plane off from Kurmitola Airfield in India on a low level mission over Shweli Bridge in Burma (part of the Burma Bridge Busters). After successfully bombing the bridge, the formation made a turn to the right to strafe anti-aircraft gun positions. Sanders B-25 was observed flying parallel to the river and over the bridge. Three shell bursts were observed behind it and one burst below the left left wing, causing it to roll, stall, then spin and crash into the river and explode. All aboard were lost. One envelope cover was drawn while he was stationed in Stockton. The last three were drawn a few months before his untimely death. One letter about his experiences flying in training.
