This mine was located very early on June 12, 1861. Incorporated March 11, 1863 & datelined Virginia, N. T. 1863. 920 for 10 shares to SC Hayden. Signed by AM Briggs & president FJ Schneider. 25c Power of Att'y revenue stamp. Not cancelled. Eagle vignette. also portrait of unknown man. Britton & Co printer. On dog ear & one pin hole. Very nice cert. In October of 1862 the San Francisco Call reported that the American Basin mine of Star District in Humboldt County had sent a small quantity of silver ore for assay. 100 pounds of ore yielded a silver brick weighing 15.10 ounces, .986 fine worth $19.25. Other nicer specimens have been received from nearby ledges. The ledges are named the Sheba, Ben Franklin, Alamo, Homer, Yellow Jacket & Honey Bee. (Which are also printed on the stock certificate.) The article states that this area is destined to rival the silver field in the vicinity of Virginia City. Schneider was the first druggist on the Comstock (short biography).
