A double truck from a Samuel Walker published book. These two pages show the Western Hemisphere and the North American continents. The North American map pre-dates the purchase of the area by the United States. As a Russian possession, the spelling was Alayska (As is shown on the map). It also shows the area down through Western Canada, then a possession of Russia. On the Western Hemisphere map, you can tell the approximate year by the name Sandwich Isle. This moniker, bestowed on the kingdom by Captain James Cook in 1778, became Hawaii in and around the 1840s. It took a while to catch on. These page maps measure 9"x 12" and are in nice condition.
