This is a rare certificate and most probably the only stock certificate ever issued at Carrara, Nevada! #2707 for 35 shares of preferred stock to Florence Windhurst in 1920. Signed by P. V. Perkins as president and secretary. Park V. Parkins was the president from 1912 on. Incorporated in December of 1912. The company operated a marble mine at Carrara, Nevada, just south of Beatty. The company was comparing its marble to the famous Carrara marble from Italy. Marble mining began in the hills south of Beatty in 1904. It wasn't until 1913 when serious mining began. The quarry was serviced by the Las Vegas and Tonopah Railroad. The company built a spur railway enabling marble to be efficiently brought to the main line. But the marble was too fractured and by 1920 the town and mine were disappearing into history. VF condition. Uncancelled. Detailed information on the mine and location is included.
