Signed by John Butterfield as vice president, William G Fargo as secretary. and Alex Holland as treasurer. Not cancelled! This is an important piece from the Wells Fargo Butterfield business family. Heavy toning. 6.75 x 11" John Butterfield and William Fargo were two of three founders of the American Express company (along with Henry Wells). Butterfield also founded the Butterfield Overland Express and from 1858 to 1861 operated a stage route running from St. Louis to San Francisco, connecting California to the growing nation. Alex Holland was the son-in-law of Butterfield.
