This is an American Express stock certificate signed by William Fargo and Henry Wells. Wells and Fargo were known for their innovation and dedication to customers. They created a joint-stock company to provide banking and express services to support the California Gold Rush. Their services included transporting gold, mail, supplies, and bank notes between New York and San Francisco. This cert is issued to Horace Bigelow Waterville for four shares at $500 per. It has a five cent red Washington stamp affixed. It's dated January 2, 1865 and cancelled. In VERY nice condition. Please see photos for more details.
