Bernard von NotHaus created the American Liberty Dollar determined the world should return to a silver backed currency. Having met with printing presses and mints across the country, he partnered with two to manufacture his bills and coins: Sunshine Minting in Coeur díAlene, Idaho, and Pro Forms in Porterville, California. Printed on high-grade cotton, the bills boasted security features that would be the envy of some national banks. In addition to a hologram, the multicolored $1s, $5s, and $10s backed by silver, of course, contained a thin line around the edge that appeared decorative but revealed a micro-printed Preamble to the U.S. Constitution when viewed under a magnifying glass. Each bill carried a unique serial number, which independent auditors would use to verify how much was being printed. On November 14, 2007 the FBI raided his business and Von NotHaus was convicted of counterfeiting in 2011, and was also accused of domestic terrorism. He was sentenced to three years of probation, and was released from probation after serving one year. This lot contains 8 crisp uncirculated American Liberty Dollar notes: four $1, one $5, one $10 and one $20.
