The American Mining Company Venture located in New Grenada - gold mine located in present-day Columbia, the Antioquia Mine. The company launched 15-20 new mines throughout the United States, South America and Cuba between 1849 and 1854, with the richest being Norwich (September 23, 1850) in Michigan.

The American Mining Company was one fo the earliest mining stock certificates displaying artistic vignettes similar to banknotes, obviously to convey values. The well-known engraver who did the work for the company's stock certificates, Augustus Halbert, had previously been employed as a line engraver by Harper Bros., publishers in 1835. While there he contributed many of the engravings found in the popular boo of Mayan history and art, 'Incidents of Travel in Yucatan' by John L. Stephens published in 1841. Later he worked for the banknote engraving firm of Rawdon, Wright & Hatch (later merged into the American Banknote Company) and finally Narine & Co., lithographer located at 21 Wall Street in New York who did the work for the American Mining Company.
