California Gold Rush Certificate. Certificate #317 dated March 10th, 1857 at Folsom for 55 shares made out to Samuel Hyneman. Cancelled. Incorporated December 1854. Signed by President A. P. Catlin and Secretary C. T. H. Palmer. A vignette of a woman and a sailing ship top center. Black on white; 4.25 x 9.5 inches, printer Lith. Britton & Rey, S. F. Notation at bottom “This holder as collateral security from E. L. Porter (Porter MC in Butte).” C. T. H. Palmer became a well-known banker and assayer during the 1860’s in Folsom. A. P. Catlin was also President of the North Fork Canal Company located in the same area. (ref.: Sacramento Daily Union, Vol. 9, No. 1268, April 17, 1855.) The work of this company was located on the North Fork of the American River at Doton's Bar and was one of the early gold discoveries. From 1849-1852 there were not less than 500 men working.
