Rare. $500 bond. No. 48, issued to the Banking House of B.F. Hastings & Co. of Sacramento City in 1862. Signed by president Arrowsmith, secretary CTH Palmer, and BF Hastings. Not cancelled. Floral black border and print. Folds, creases, tears, and toning. 10.5 x 14" The American River Water and Mining Company was formed in 1854 to build a ditch to divert water from the North Fork of the American River. The North Fork Ditch was dug from 1854-1856, and provided water for drinking, irrigation and mining operations to areas that are near Folsom. Palmer was also a Folsom banker (Granite Banking House), as well as Wells Fargo Agent and an assayer. BF Hastings was a banker operating in Sacramento and in Virginia City, Nevada.
