Early 1880 issued in Leadville. Inc. in Colorado. No. 26, issued for 5 shares to Isaac Cooper on Oct. 18th, 1880 in Leadville. Signed by president Edward C. Perkins and secretary William Mason. Not cancelled. Floral border and two vignettes: allegorical woman (bottom left) and state seal (top center). Printed by Franklin Printing House. Pinholes, folds, tape repaired spindle hole. 6.75 x 11" Capt. Isaac Cooper was founder of the town of Glenwood Springs. The 1879 Colorado Mining Directory lists Americus mines in Boulder County and Gilpin County. The 1883 Directory lists an Americus mine in Gilpin County, but not Leadville. This has been presented elsewhere as a Leadville property, but no direct link could be found. The Americus Mine in Central City was the site of a mine disaster in August 1895 that resulted in miners drowning underground. Americus was also the name of a mining town in Chaffee County.
