This is a six page handwritten letter from Fred J. Rivers to the editor at the New York Herald Tribune Mrs. William Brown Meloney (Marie Mattingly Meloney)
In 1927, Meloney was editor of the Sunday magazine of the New York Herald Tribune and Rivers, a veteran of the U.S. Army sent his story as a member of the military through The Indian Wars, as well as The Spanish American War.
He writes of his service under leaders like General Henry W. Lawton. Later he mentions Generals Wheeler, Shafter and McArthur. The letter is written in a flowing narrative that is easy to follow and understand.
A nice piece of military history.
