Signed by one of the builders of the Como to Carson River Road. This is a Van Winkle family affair. Issued to A. J. Van Winkle and signed by president A. J. Van Winkle and secretary P. W. Van Winkle. Number 109 for 20 shares. Dateline is an unusual Carson City, September 8,1863. Incorporated April 10, 1863. Location: Palmyra District, Lyon County, N. T. Mountain mining with sun setting over lake vignette. Towne & Bacon printer. Held together by tape on the entire center vertical fold. Tape seems to be museum quality. Tape job is a little crooked though. 25c Certificate revenue stamp. Not cancelled. Includes notes on the Palmyra district and the mining camp of Como (and the story of the Como Indian War). P. W. Van Winkle and brother A. J. arrived in Nevada by 1859 when it was still part of the Utah Territory. They were active in Carson City by 1860.
