This is a Van Winkle family affair. Issued to A Van Winkle and signed by president A Van Winkle and secretary P Van Winkle. Number 109 for 20 shares. Dateline unusual Carson City, 1863. Incorporated April 10, 1863. Location: Palmyra District, Lyon County, N. T. Mountain mining with sun setting over lake. Towne & Bacon printer. Held together by tape entire center vertical fold. Tape seems to be museum quality. Tape job is a little off though. 25c Certificate revenue stamp. Not cancelled. The Washington mine in the same district was also a Van Winkle affair. We found no information on this mine. Van Winkle was used by many local mining companies as a secretary. The Palmyra district was located at the north end of the Pine Nut Mountains, extending generally from Lyon Peak on the south to the Carson River on the north. The Palmyra district, which included the towns of Palmyra and Como, was organized in 1862 in the Pine Nut Mountains 8 miles southeast of Dayton and just above Fort Churchill. Prag Collection
