Rare and early. Inc. March 1877. No. 36, issued for 1 share to Arthur Hayward in Milwaukee, June 1877. Signed by president Angus Smith and secretary Vance. Not cancelled. Red and black print with allegorical vignette. Folds, soiling. This is right at the beginning of Animas Forks mining boom. The mining camp was located 12 miles NE of Silverton in San Juan County. The company was formerly known as the Dakota & San Juan Mining Company. They had 4 locations, 6,000 feet, on the left fork of the Animas, on the south side of Mineral Point Mountain. These included: the Barrows and Barrows Extension, and the Yankton and Yankton Extension. RH Smythe of Boulder was serving as supt. It is named as one of the chief Animas Fork mines at that time. [Ouray Times, August 11, 1877] In Oct. 1877, it was reported that this company had erected a concentration works with four jigs, with a capacity of 10 tons per jig per day.
