This is a Henry Deringer pocket pistol found in the Easton family trunk. The frame and architecture is the same as another derringer found in the Ansel and Adeline Easton possessions. They are twins. No ferrous material has survived. The brass trigger guard is held captive in the stock. Again, the inletting is precision indicating a mass production assembly and possibly a stock duplicating process to a small degree. This is the same model that was used by John Wilkes Booth to assassinate President Lincoln. The pistol was inlet for a shield at the wrist, an escutcheon for the lock screw, an inlay opposite the lock-plate, butt cap, and the two inlays for the wedge. Checkering is identical as the other pistol made by Henry Deringer. 6 in. overall length. A small percentage of varnish is visible. Because a derringer is a single shot pistol, a pair of the same caliber would be practical when self defense was clearly a necessity.

Provenance: SS Central America Collection
