Duotone lithograph showing anti-Chinese activist Denis Kearney in jail with Chinese people tormenting him through the bars. Text "You Sabe Him! Kealney [sic.] Must Go!" is printed at the bottom. 11 x 14" Published by IN Choynski, Antiquarian (an early SF bookseller). Good condition. Date unknown. Kearny incited a riot and was arrested. The Working Mans Party of California had used the slogan "The Chinese Must Go!", which this lithograph is playing with. The party held a rally on July 24th, 1877, where a demonstration was held at the US Mint near the Woolen Mills, a major Chinese employer. Kearny incited a riot. The next evening a crowd gathered at the Pacific Mail Steamers dock, where Chinese workers were arriving from Asia. They set fire to a lumber yard and attacked firefighters. Police shot and killed 4 rioters. Heavy Stock.
