An 1847 letter sent from one W.L. Perkins of Columbus, Ohio to A. Morley Esq. of Painesville, Ohio. Perkins discusses their shared opposition to slavery, which he describes as "a cursed institution" that must be left to "crumble and rot". He writes about the political obstacles to the end of slavery and how to achieve their goals within the context of the Mexican-American war, which the United States was engaged in at the time. The envelope is included, and a small clipping of an anti-slavery quote is affixed to it. Also included is a more legible handwritten transcription of the original letter. [ Columbus Ohio
