This purse belonged to the wife of Myrl Scott Myer's, Alice. Myrl S. Myers was the Consul General of the United States of America to China in 1938 when he was captured by the Japanese and taken as a Prisoner of War. He was traded back to the U. S. in Africa. His wife Alice, and his daughters, Barbara and Helen returned to the United States. Helen became a doctor in Berkeley and Barbara became an Accountant in Marin. In 1989 the consignor's mother was assisting the two daughters in liquidating the Estate of Consul General Myer's, when the earthquake hit, and she was able to hold a valuable Tang Horse on the mantel so it would not fall and break. This purse was a gift of appreciation from Myrl Myer's daughters. The purse is approximately 6" x 6" and lined with fine silk. It is in excellent condition for it's age and adorned on one side with genuine hand carved coral and chinese jade frogs, and possibly fish. The larger jade piece is a floral carving and the large button closure on top is plain coral. 4 Coral pieces and 3 Jade pieces. A beautfiul example of early 19th Century Oriental Craftsmanship with authentic Antique Chinese Jade. Comes with Provenance.
