Heavy, antique, solid brass, embossed, Cutler Manufacturing Co. mail chute, with additional decorative embossed front plate with an alternate design that appears to be new (never used) as brass is untarnished, and small brass patent label plate. Plate on complete chute features an elaborate design of a spread-winged Phoenix with a P.O.D. chest plate hanging from it's neck, and banner that says, "The Cutler Manufacturing Co. Rochester, N.Y. Patented In U.S. & Canada" wrapped around his talons. Another banner at the bottom reads, "U.S. Mail Chute". Entire chute is 5.75" x 8" with mail slot at top and sharp spikes located inside slot to prevent mail theft. 2nd untarnished solid brass embossed front plate features same Phoenix in background with "U. S. Mail Chute Cutler Mfg. Co. Sole Makers Patented" printed in large bold lettering across the front of the plate. Decorative front plates are 5" x 5". Small brass patent label plate reads, "Cutler Patent Mailing System. United States Patents. (Patent dates for U.S. and Canada) Installed by the sole Makers. The Cutler Mfg. Co, Rochester, N.Y., U.S.A." and measures 7/8" x 3 1/8" with holes punched in each corner for mounting. This type of chute was commonly used in hotels and are rare to find, especially complete assemblies in choice condition. Highly collectible lot.
