A collection of eighty-one Antique Miner's Tags, mostly brass, mostly round, a few aluminum, and one square, two blanks, and generally 1.5 inches in diameter. Underground miners would be assigned a pair of matching numbered brass tags that were hanging on a large board in the change house or at the entrance of the underground mine. Each miner would take one of his brass tags and keep it in his pocket. The other would stay on the board, sometimes turned over to reveal a bright orange sticker. In an emergency situation, a solitary tag on the board indicated that a specific miner was underground and needed to be accounted for. The brass tag in the pocket identified the miner if tragedy struck. This is a collection of brass tags recovered from long-closed underground mines in Utah. There are a few duplicate numbers, but most are singletons. See photo for relative size, shapes, and numbers. State: Utah City: Date:
