This is a pair of 16 x 20-inch, black and white photographs of His Eminence the Most Reverend Archbishop Nikon (de Greve) of Brooklyn, New York (1895-1983). He was borne Alexis de Greve in the town of Batoum, Russia. After military training and service in WWI and the Russian Civil War, he fled to western Europe where he eventually took monastic vows and was ordained to the priesthood in 1928, serving in Czechoslovakia and in Paris and Brussels. He moved to America in 1947, serving in Pennsylvania before becoming Bishop of Toronto from 1952-1958. The next year he became Archbishop of Tokyo and all Japan. He returned to the US in 1963 and was named Archbishop of Brooklyn in 1965. The two photos are in good condition but have no information about the person. We thank a recent caller for providing the identity of the man in these photographs.
