A colored illustration on linen depicting a cross-section of the Argonaut Shaft in Jackson, California, dated 1913. Signed very lightly at bottom right by E.C. Uren. Argonaut was a major gold mine, known now for being the site of the deadliest mining disaster in California history; in 1922, 47 miners were trapped underground when a fire broke out, and all died almost immediately. Good condition, with some creasing and light toning. Great (if morbid) piece of California mining history.
