This token was identified by an unknown person and sold to our client as "Colorado Reserve". However, according to Spooner, Salt was listed at "Colorado Reserve" between 1871 and 1876. Our research shows something quite different. First, the name is fairly unique. There was only one "John H. Salt" found associated with anything in Arizona, and that was John H. Salt, born 1849 in England, was a Private in the US Infantry in 1870 at La Paz, Yuma County. The next year he was the post master at Parker, Arizona, where he maintained that position through at least 1873. There is a big lapse of information on this specific man Salt until 1900, when he is in Poughkeepsie, New York working as a Shoer in his old age. He is not in the 1880 Census, and the 1890 Census burned.
The style of this token is very clearly post-1900. We suggest it is not an Arizona token, but further research might tell us a lot more.
