1864 Edition. 251pp. Harper Bros., New York. 5.25 x 7.75”. Brown boards, gilt lettered spine, fading. Separation beginning of spine cover. Two bookplates inside front cover. James Wickersham on an Alaska related bookplate, and Justin G. Turner on a political bookplate. Wickersham was a District Judge for Alaska appointed by McKinley, later Congressman from Alaska 1908-1917 and later 1930. Made first attempt to climb Denali, aborted, 1903. Turner was cofounder of the Manuscript society, and author. This volume is another stand-alone work, completely different from the others. It is entirely reformatted. It contains much new information on the mines, with thorough descriptions, assays and discussion of the works. From pp232-348 is an original essay by J. Ross Browne provided to Mowry before publication in Harper’s. It is followed by several pages taken from Ward’s Mexico about mining history there.
