Lot of twenty-four checks from James S. Duncan to foreman, teamsters, cook, and shoveled (not my kind of job!). Shows deductions for board and store. All cancelled in Las Vegas, New Mexico by the Browne & Manzanares Company. Chino Valley is the site of the first Territorial Capital of Arizona. U.S. Army Cavalry Lt. Amiel W. Whipple, while traveling through the area in 1854, gave the community its name. "Chino" is the Spanish name for the abundant curly gram grass growing in the area. Date: 1889 AZ hwac 3777
