Discharge letter for Calvin M. McDaniel, Second lieutenant of Captain John Alexander, Cavalry Company of the Kansas Irregular Force commanded by General James H Lane of the Kansas Brigade. McDaniel was mustered into service at Fort Lincoln on Sept. 5, 1861 to repell(sic) an invasion of Kansas by General Ranes and is now honorably discharged by reason of the retreat of the Sucession Army(Confederate).
