This document is for the arrest of twelve slaves for an unpaid debt. Slaves included Ann, Jeff, John, Madison, Nelson, Mary, Phillis, Edy, Rebecca, Darius and Dolly. Also confiscated were a carriage, horses, running gear, etc. Signed by sheriff C. H. Randolph of Houston County. Cyrus Halbert Randolph arrived in Houston County in 1838 the year after it was organized. He was an attorney, chief justice form 1844-45, sheriff from 1847-48, spent three terms int he state legislature, and state treasurer from 1858 to 1865. The town of Randolph (most probably named for him) was at one time the most important in East Houston County and almost became the county seat.
