A pair of 1920s post cards illustrated by Marco Montedoro in the Art Nouveau-Art Deco style. Both signed M. Montedoro. Oval illustrations framed in gold gilt. Publisher printed on verso: ("A-1" & "A-5") "Proprieta artistic riservata - Uff. Rev. Stampa Milano 25-9-17 No. 2234." Illustrations show through to backs. Unused. Clean. Born in Italy in 1887, to a family of musicians, Montedoro was regarded as a child prodigy. Sent to Paris to study art as a teenager, he established himself as an artist and remained there. Then in 1913 he became the artistic director of the Metropol in Berlin. Later he moved back to Italy and designed posters for Italian theaters for Italian cinemas and theaters during WWI. He returned to Paris after the war, and designed costumes for Le Palace, Les Ambassadeurs, Moulin Rouge, and Folies BergËre as well as for productions in Milan, Berlin, London, St. Petersburg, and Poland. In 1930, he relocated to New York City and designed for the Schubert Theatre. From 1932-1947, he worked with Vincente Minelli designing sets and costumes for Radio City Music Hall, where Montedoro became head designer. Montedoro died in 1947.
