This postcard is part of Alphonse Mucha's 1st series of 12 cards which comprises three groups of four cards each. The second group in the 1st Series is of four flowers and was originally titled Les Fleurs. No. 408, Roses. R-2. From the set of four flowers published by Champenois in 1900. Lady in blue dress with roses in the background. Unused. Light staining corners from being in an album on verso, otherwise clean.
In 1898 and 1899 sets of four decorative panels featuring these scenes printed on paper were sold for 40 francs. Deluxe sets on satin cost 100 francs. Depicted were carnations (oeillet), irises (iris), lilies (lys or lis), and roses (rose). On the postcards each illustration is in the horizontal format and occupies about 1/4 of the card on the left side. (Info: "The Postcards of Alphonse Mucha," Q. David Bowers & Mary L. Martin, 1981.)
