This Unlisted postcard is one of two subjects the JOB firm commissioned Alfonse Mucha to design. It illustrates a lady with long blonde hair in a white gown. The JOB name appears above in mosaic form, "Paper a Cigarettes JOB." The image appeared on a calendar as well as on a poster and in La Plume magazine. In its postcard form the image is titled "Calendrier 1897 Mucha," below the illustration. Postcard No. 171, "JOB calendar," is similar but without the "Calendrier 1897 Mucha" title. Nos. 172 & 173 are also similar. Unused. Minor pencil marking upper right on verso, otherwise clean.
The JOB firm, founded in 1836 (the name JOB is derived from the initials of company founder Jean Bardou), commissioned artists to design posters and calendars during the period from about 1895 to 1914. Two of the subjects, one for an 1897 calendar and the other for an 1898 poster, were done by Mucha.
