This is a postcard designed by Alphonse Mucha, c1900. No. 421. Byzantine Head - Brunette. R-3. Lady's head facing right, surrounded by circle. Unused. Light staining front and back, on corners, due to being in an album, otherwise clean.
The 2nd series of cards issued by Champenois consists of two pairs and two sets of four cards. The first cards in the series are two images of Byzantine heads (tete Byzantine), one a brunette and the other a blonde. The two Byzantine heads achieved wide recognition and were reproduced on decorative panels and other media. In postcard form each appears as a head surrounded by a circle, on the left side of the card.
