This is a postcard designed by Alphonse Mucha, c1900-05. No. 501. Design for a Calendar. R-4. Vertical design fills most of card. Lady in gold dress with gilt arch in background. White space at right for use in overprinting. Unused. Light staining on corners due to being in an album, otherwise clean.
This postcard is one in a series issued by Champenois, which contains 12 cards of various subjects, including a set of four illustrating the times of the day. The cards in the 5th, 6th and 7th series are scarcer than those in the preceding series, possibly because of their "miscellaneous" nature. It also could be due to the declining popularity of Art Nouveau postcards at the time. One authority has written that the year 1900 marked the peak of popularity of "le style Mucha."
