This postcard is from Alphonse Mucha's 7th Series, c1903. No. 523. Thistle of the Shore. R-5. Vertical design with curved top occupies 2/3 of the card, with plain margin to right. Lady in gray dress with lace cap and shawl holds bouquet of flowers and faces to the left. Three postmarks, penned address on verso, small staining on front, lower left and bent corner upper left.
It is one of two cards from a pair of panels designed in the early 20th century and registered in 1903, although distribution may have taken place earlier.
The cards in the 5th, 6th and 7th series are scarcer than those in the preceding series, possibly because of their "miscellaneous" nature. It also could be due to the declining popularity of Art Nouveau postcards at the time. One authority has written that the year 1900 marked the peak of popularity of "le style Mucha."
