Pair of vintage graphic design art postcards published by Wiener Werkstätte, by artist Maria Likarz. Includes Wiener Werkstätte Nos. 833 & 835. Both are artist signed and clean. From its inception in 1903, Wiener Werkstätte produced artists’ and fashion postcards to use not only for correspondence but also for advertising. Maria Likarz-Strauss (1893–1971) worked for Wiener Werkstätte from 1912-14, as well as after her return from Germany, 1920-31. After the dissolution of Wiener Werkstätte, Likarz-Strauss moved to Rome where she worked as a ceramicist until she died in 1971. The Wiener Werkstätte Workshop, in Vienna, Austria, established by graphic designer and painter Koloman Moser, architect Josef Hoffmann and patron Fritz Waerndorfer, brought together architects, artists, designers and artisans working in ceramics, fashion, silver, furniture and graphic arts. The workshop is regarded as a pioneer of modern design, and its influence can be seen in later styles such as Bauhaus and Art Deco. It influenced generations of architects and designers in the 20th century. - Some info from Wikipedia [ 1903-on
