Vintage postcard, color lithograph illustration titled "Alt-Karlsbad (Old Karlsbad)-Schillerhaus" by Alois Leupold Löwenthal, c1909, No. 208, Wiener Werkstätte publisher. Löwenthal (Austrian, Vienna 1881–after 1945) "was a prominent artist, renowned for his ability to combine realism, surrealism and abstraction," and "his contributions continue to be celebrated and studied by art enthusiasts and historians alike." - Design-encyclopedia.com. The Schillerhaus is a small former farmhouse in the Leipzig district of Gohlis. German playwright, poet, philosopher and historian Friedrich Schiller lived on the upper floor of the house in the summer of 1785. The Wiener Werkstätte Workshop, in Vienna, Austria, was established in 1903 by graphic designer and painter Koloman Moser, architect Josef Hoffmann and patron Fritz Waerndorfer, who brought together architects, artists, designers and artisans working in ceramics, fashion, silver, furniture and graphic arts. The workshop is regarded as a pioneer of modern design, and influenced generations of architects and designers in the 20th century. [ 1909
