A complete set of 6 postcards from the Childhood Days series, featuring the artwork of Samuel L. Schmucker, c1907-15. Mint condition, unused. Illustrations of children in color lithograph and gold gilt, in a process named on the backs, "Phostint." Each numbered with titles and an excerpt from a poem by famous poets: Harry Wadsworth Longfellow, Alfred Tennyson, Robert Louis Stevenson and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Set includes: I, Baby Days; II, The Runaway; III, Playtime; IV, Among the Flowers; V, Fairy Tales; VI, Off to School. Copyright Detroit Publishing Co. Samuel Loren Schmucker (1879-1921) overcame the challenge of polio to study drawing and painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Howard Pyle Institute at Drexel. By 1905, he established himself as a commercial artist. For almost 10 years, Schmucker’s work was printed by two of the largest postcard publishers in the United States-the Detroit Publishing Company and the John Winsch Company. [ 1907-15
