These are three assays from Thomas Price of San Francisco dated 1879, 1883, and 1889. Thomas Price ingots are extremely rare: about four silver ingots are known, and one gold ingot is known. The assays are almost as rare. Price, a native of Wales, was a graduate of the Royal School of Mines, London and worked in Swansea where the world's copper was smelted. California ore was also sent there where he learned of California gold. He relocated to San Francisco in 1862 working for Kellogg & Hewston later San Francisco Assay and Refining Works and still later his own assay company. He was known as Professor Price for teaching assay at two California colleges. The assay #6846 of 1879 is red ink on cream paper with 56 oz. of low grade gold amalgam with silver for a value of $679.95. The depositor was W. DuPont. Minor fold crease no foxing in very good condition. The assay #7094 of 1883, black ink on white paper, deposited by Wheeler & Rogers is for 147.75 oz. of gold for a fineness of .948 valued at $2863.46. Three fold creases one chip lower right and upper left. Printed by Britton & Rey of S.F. Fine condition. The third assay is on Thomas Price & Son letterhead dated 1889. Gold Bullion from San Domingo Gold Mining Co. #1326 bar at 106.85 oz. fineness of .893 for a value of $1944.63. Arithmetic on the back; three fold creases no foxing. Signed Thomas Price & Son.
