Hydraulic mining vignette. 20 and 5 cent revenue stamps attached on the right. Printed by Towne & Bacon. Folds, toning and soiling. Rough edges. Certainly named after prominent American family. Not listed in Filer. According to Langley (1864), the company had an office at 436 Montgomery in SF. Samuel Purdy is listed as an architect. Prospectors from Austin located several claims along Big Creek during the early months of 1863. Small villages were established and later consolidated into one town, Canyon City.
