22 cancelled General Mortgage 4% 100-year gold registered bond, dated 1889-1978. Raised co seal. Good condition, very nice vignettes of people, trains, luggage handling. Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway was chartered in Feb. 1859. Railroad reached Kansas-Colorado border in 1873 and Pueblo, CO, in 1876. Main line never served Santa Fe, NM, land too difficult. Railway line dealt in intermodal freight transportation and included a tugboat fleet, an airline, bus line and ferryboats on the San Francisco Bay allowed travelers to complete their westward journeys to the Pacific Ocean. The line was the subject of a popular song, Harry Warren and Johnny Mercer's "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe," written for the film, The Harvey Girls (1946). Operations ceased Dec. 31, 1996, when it merged with the Burlington Northern Railroad to form the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway.
