$1,000 Trust Gold Bond cert #13987 with 66 coupons. 6 month interest due Jan 1, 1937. Raised company seal. Signed Jan 1, 1887. Nice vignette of lake view with train, cows under trees. A&P's earliest predecessor was the Pacific Railroad, incur. by Missouri General Assembly in 1849 to connect St. Louis and point south of Kansas City. State approved an amendment to the 1849 Pacific Railroad law in Dec., 1852, adding a Southwest Branch that would receive the federal land grants to build another railroad branch. Construction on 71 miles from Franklin to Dillon was completed in 1860, and a further 6 miles to Rolla were opened in 1861. Company graded 12 miles more to Arlington. After the company defaulted on bonds, state seized the road from Franklin to Rolla and incomplete roadbed to Arlington in March 1866. Property was sold in June for $1.3 million to explorer and politician John C. Frémont, who reorganized it as the Southwest Pacific Railroad in September. Printed: American Bank Note Co. NY.
