Civil War Soldier memorabilia. Agustus Needham served in Company "B", 29th regiment of the Wisconsin Infantry. Included here are records of his promotion to Corporal, Sargent, and First Sargent, family letters, record of Discharge, convention ribbons, and the "Wisconsin in the Civil War" magazine written by Robert W. Wells of the Milwaukee Journal, which discusses Needham's outfit. The 29th was known for chasing bushwhackers in Arkansas and stealing their troops of mules who they "mustered into the Union Army." The 29th took part in Vicksburg under Sherman. The 29th suffered tremendous unspecified sicknesses. Their commander Col. Charles Gill, also of Watertown, resigned because of ill health. The outfit had 882 men, including 576 foreign born from 16 countries. Only 28 were born in Wisconsin. The lot includes a collection of Needham's GAR memorabilia. In this are five ribbons from various encampments, two celluloid pinbacks, his brass GAR cap insignia, five breast badges, all fancy. Please see the photo.
